My Little Number ‘99′

So contrary to popular belief Canadian baby boys are not born coming out of the womb clutching a hockey stick… :)

Grandpa bought a hockey stick for Ali and cut it down to an appropriate size.  We ‘played’ hockey for the first time the other day.  Ali doesn’t quite yet realize that he needs to hold the stick with two hands to get better control.

He did enjoy yelling “HOCKEY” at the top of his lungs over and over again!

Pancakes and Maple Syrup!

Filed Under (Canadian, Fun Outing) by Christine on 30-03-2008

PancakesYesterday we went to Jakeman’s Maple Farm which has been producing Canada’s best maple syrup since 1876. Every weekend in March they serve pancakes with their famous syrup.

We arrived a little after 10am and immediately went to their quaint little restaurant and had yummy pancakes and coffee. The pancakes were exactly as pancakes should be- big and really fluffy!

I kept pouring on the maple syrup as the pancakes were soaking it in too quickly (I don’t feel too badly about this as apparently pure maple syrup has less calories than sugar, honey and molasses :) ).

Here’s Ali sitting on Grandma’s lap enjoying his pancakes

My computer spends more time on my lap than my kid…

no laptop

I have just created this blog, it is only a couple of days old. I have been really focused on learning how to get everything set up. Really pre-occupied with ideas and getting excited as things come together.

Yesterday, as I was sitting with my laptop searching blog directories and figuring out the code for Google Adsense, Ali came up me.

He was looking for some attention (his mind had obviously wondered from the Teletubbies when just a few minutes before he had asked me to put on the video for him), and was a little whiny.

Huggies Pull Ups- Nightime Diapers (Product Review)

Filed Under (Product Review, Save $- Coupons) by Christine on 28-03-2008

pull-ups.jpg

For about a week now Ali has been waking up in the morning soaking wet!

His diaper leaks through his pajamas and soaks his sheets as well.

So, I decided that we should try something different for him to wear at night while sleeping. I bought Huggies Pull Ups from Wal-Mart and have been pleasantly surprised with them.

They definitely can hold their liquid! No more waking up wet!

And what has been kind of cool is that we started using them during the day time as well as they are super easy to get on. They are designed a little less like a diaper and more like underwear.

Ali has always fought me ‘tooth and nail’ when it comes to changing his diaper.

Since the day we brought him home from the hospital he wails, and thrashes and cries as if life is coming to an end every single time I change a diaper.

It wasn’t so bad when he was smaller because I could hold him still with one hand and use the other to get the diaper on. Well, now that he is a little bigger and a little stronger, it is all I can do to get the diaper on without losing an eye!

So, now instead of chasing him around, or fearing that I will get hurt in the process, I can quickly slip on the Pull Ups. And I can see how obviously they will be very handy once we move into potty training (which I am gearing up to do soon).

All in all, Huggies Pull Ups are good in our book!

Just Saying… Franklin the Turtle

Filed Under (Just Saying..., That's Life as a Toddler) by Christine on 28-03-2008

Franklin the Turtle
So, we are watching an episode of Franklin the Turtle the other day (and as a side note I remember him being on tv 10 years ago when I used to babysit for my friend so apparently Franklin has some kind of timeless element to him…)

Anyway, in this episode Bear and Franklin are going camping with Franklin’s dad (another aside- why don’t any of the other characters have names? Why are they called by their species? Bear, Beaver, Snail etc…) and just before they are going to leave, Franklin’s dad drops a frying pan on his foot.

Here We Go…

So, I am actually cheating here…

I am starting this blog a couple of weeks before my son Ali turns two on April 18th.

As we approach the beginning of an new era- namely the “Terrible Two’s“, I am trying to prepare for the changes that will be coming in the next year.

The potty-training, the transition from his crib to a toddler bed, adjusting to the arrival of Baby #2 (coming in July), flailing limbs during over-the-top tantrums, and many more milestones.

Hopefully with a little luck, a lot of patience and pure determination we will make it through, and maybe, just maybe the “Terrible Two’s” won’t be, well, so terrible :)
