Pancakes and Maple Syrup!

Yesterday we went to Jakeman’s Maple Farm which has been producing Canada’s best maple syrup since 1876. Every weekend in March they serve pancakes with their famous syrup.

We arrived a little after 10am and immediately went to their quaint little restaurant and had yummy pancakes and coffee. The pancakes were exactly as pancakes should be- big and really fluffy!

I kept pouring on the maple syrup as the pancakes were soaking it in too quickly (I don’t feel too badly about this as apparently pure maple syrup has less calories than sugar, honey and molasses ).

After we ate we enjoyed a hay ride. Ali loves horses and was really excited to see the two horses, Buster and Whitey who were pulling the cart.

Apparently these horses weigh 1900 pounds each! And their feet were like twice the size of Ali’s head!

Unfortunately the sap wasn’t running as it was too cold, so we weren’t able to go out into the Maple Bush and see first hand the collection process. Almost all the trees have been tapped, but it hasn’t been warm enough consistently for the collection of the sap.

It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning! If you can get your hands on some of the Jakeman’s syrup - do it! You won’t be disappointed!
